BENTON HARBOR, Mich. — Whirlpool Corp.’s sales dropped 8% for the third quarter of 2009 compared to the same period in 2008, according to a recent earnings report, but it raised its profit outlook for the year, saying that its cost-cutting measures will pay off in the final quarter.

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. — Whirlpool Corp. reported a second-quarter profit drop of 33%, but that was still better than analyst expectations. The company also boosted the low end of its full-year profit guidance above analysts’ estimates.

Whirlpool contributed the relatively higher-than-expected profit to lowered working capital, improved pricing and product mix, and additional cost controls.

MINNEAPOLIS — G&K Services Inc. has reduced its North American workforce by approximately 340 positions and eliminated approximately 120 open positions. These steps further adjust the company’s cost structure in response to lower customer volumes and the expectation of continued weakness in near-term economic conditions, the company says.

MINNEAPOLIS — G&K Services Inc. has taken actions to reduce expenses, including plant closings, layoffs and outsourcing, as a result of the continued difficult economic environment, and it has established reserves for environmental matters and recent changes in compensation laws, the company reports.

The expenses associated with these activities, additional reserves and continued economic softness will result in fiscal 2009 first-quarter revenue and earnings per diluted share results that will be below previously provided guidance, the company adds.

PHILADELPHIA — ARAMARK Corp. has completed a merger in which it has been acquired by an investor group led by Joseph Neubauer, chairman and chief executive officer of ARAMARK, and investment funds managed by GS Capital Partners, CCMP Capital Advisors and J.P. Morgan Partners, Thomas H. Lee Partners and Warburg Pincus.

Approximately 250 ARAMARK senior managers are also investing in the transaction.
