TRSA's Production Management Institute enhances and develops supervisory or management performance that affects participants and their organizations by:

  • Educating and providing them with a thorough understanding of production management and plant operation skills and leadership
  • Enhancing supervisory and leadership skills

For 20+ years, PMI has helped textile services operations run more efficiently and productively. Today's PMI combines classroom and web-based learning, with continuous professional development and recognition through the Certified Professional Laundry Manager (CPLM) designation.

First-time attendees take PMI Production: interactive classroom training on fundamental laundry production and operations, such as soil sort, wash aisle and finishing. Following this session, in their own workplaces over the next 12 months, participants complete a series of self-paced, online modules on important management topics such as communications, finance and leadership. They return to PMI one year after PMI Production to complete PMI Management to further refine their production and laundry-specific management skills. Upon completion of the classroom and online training, students are tested and can earn the CPLM, the baseline of knowledge for all graduates.

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — Aeronautics engineer developed enclosed aluminum and fiberglass linen distribution carts

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — Charles R. “Chuck” Clement, founder of lint filter manufacturer Clean Cycle Systems and laundry/linen cart manufacturer Tecni-Quip, died Aug. 26 at the age of 94.

Tecni-Quip designed and manufactured the first enclosed aluminum and fiberglass linen distribution carts. In the 1980s, Clement developed the slimline dry-style lint filter and launched Clean Cycle Systems.

Clement was born Oct. 14, 1918, to Shelby and Charlene Clement. His mother died from tuberculosis when Chuck was 11.

In 1940, Clement was inducted in the U.S. Army. He served seven years as a first and second lieutenant and another 10 years as a reservist, earning the rank of captain.

During his tour in the Panama Canal Zone in 1944, Clement met Jane Reynolds, a civil service employee overseeing the canal's finances. They were married a year later.

After the war ended, they relocated to Los Angeles, where Jane worked as an executive secretary while Chuck attended college on the GI bill and earned a degree in aeronautical engineering. He worked many years in aircraft design and manufacturing as chief engineer for Hi-Shear Corp., Torrance, Calif.

The Clements founded Tecni-Quip in 1961 in Long Beach, Calif. She ran the office and he developed the cart product line. Sales were limited to local hospitals at first, but the company grew within a few years to encompass national distribution.

In 1984, after designing and manufacturing lint filters for other companies, the Clements created Clean Cycle Systems, which today offers domestic and international sales.

The couple worked as a team for more than 35 years and were involved in many industry trade associations as well as their church and local civic organizations. Jane died from cancer in 1994.

The companies relocated manufacturing and sales to the San Antonio area in 1996. Today, they are run by the Clements' daughter, Jo Beth, and son-in-law, Mike.

Clement met Edith Conner in 1998, and they were soon married. She died in 2010.

He remained involved in many activities, hobbies, and his church until the time of his death.

He was preceded in death by his first and second wives, his parents, and his sister, Louise Ray. Survivors include his daughter, Jo Beth Clement-Reilly, and son-in-law, Mike; a sister, Mary Tom Monette; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Eagle Scout 2012/2013 Troop 317 Projects benefiting the Seguin Community, c/o TQI LLC, P.O. Box 2050, Seguin, TX 78155.

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Bryant Dunivan, Energenics, assumes association presidency

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Many “movers and shakers” in the textile care industry gathered here in mid-April for the Textile Care Allied Trades Association’s 2012 Annual Management and Educational Conference, the group reports.

Speaker Dean Minuto opened the meeting with an unusual but intriguing topic — utilizing the latest findings in neuroscience to learn how to tap the “buy button” in the human brain. Attendees left with tangible ideas on how to change the marketing and sales of their products and services for maximum effectiveness.

Hunter Lott discussed ways that businesses can stay out of court. He reviewed the important issues surrounding hiring and firing, pay scales, personnel manuals, and a host of other topics important to any business owner. Finally, Sheila Kloefkorn outlined the ways that companies can use online marketing and social media to promote their business in a cost-effective way.

Two members were recognized for having achieved significant membership milestones. Rosenberg Supply, San Antonio, Texas, celebrates its 75th year of TCATA membership this year, and Michael Steiner, Steiner-Atlantic Corp., Miami, accepted an award recognizing his company’s 50th year of membership.

The Williamsburg Lodge was a short walk from the colonial section of Williamsburg, where attendees could explore the town’s history and learn more about the important role it played in the founding of our country. One of the evening functions included a self-guided tour of the Jamestown Settlement Museum.

“Those that attended this conference are the survivors in the industry,” says conference chairman Kevin Lawson, Tri-State Equipment. “It is clear that the educational seminars and networking opportunities available at the TCATA conference have played a role in the success of their businesses, something that draws members back year after year.”

Bryant Dunivan, vice president of marketing and sales at Energenics Corp., assumed the association’s presidency. He will serve a two-year term.

He has been active with TCATA for many years, having served as vice president of the Machinery Manufacturer membership division, chairman of the Clean Show Advisory Committee, and as a board member since 2009. He also chaired the 2006 annual conference.

Dunivan hopes to increase association membership by looking to some of the newer types of companies that have evolved in a vastly changed industry. “By educating these companies about the important role that TCATA plays in the industry, how the association helps them to be successful in their business, and exploring the common goals we have, I hope to expand TCATA’s reach in the industry.”

Roger Komins, founder of Package Supply, took over as treasurer. Elected to vice presidential terms for the next year were Tony Regan, American Dryer Corp., Machinery Manufacturers Group; D’Arcy McConvey, Dalex Canada, Distributors Group; and David Tingue, Tingue, Brown & Co., Supply Manufacturers Group.

Elected to the board of directors for two-year terms were Machinery Manufacturers Group: Regan, and Kim Shady, Laundrylux; Machinery Distributors Group: Jim Horwath, A.A. Horwath & Sons; Supply Manufacturers Group: Tingue, Kevin Gavlak of Faultless Laundry Products Group, and Mark O’Bryan of CTS Packaging; and Supply Distributors Group: Komins, and Gerald Henke of Intex Distributing.

Luckily, the only thing hurt was Ralph McMillan’s pride.

McMillan tells me his Texas company, RAMCO Laundry Machinery, was nearly victimized in a scam perpetrated by someone claiming to be from the United Arab Emirates.

While no money or equipment was lost, he asked if I would alert the industry to the possibility of similar scam attempts.

An individual from “Orion General Trading” contacted RAMCO by e-mail in November, claiming to represent a client who was interested in buying two flatwork ironers.
