Emerald Textiles Expands by Adding New LA Service Center

SAN DIEGO — New facility provides greater coverage, larger physical presence for its existing, prospective customers

SAN DIEGO — Commercial healthcare laundry Emerald Textiles has expanded its operation into Los Angeles, adding a service center there to provide even greater coverage and a larger physical presence for existing and prospective customers, the company reports.

“As we continue to expand in the Los Angeles market, this service center will increase our coverage in the greater Los Angeles area,” says Tom Gildred, Emerald Textiles CEO. “Our existing customers will benefit from this additional location and so will any new customers in the region.”

Emerald Textiles operates what it considers to be “the most technologically advanced and environmentally responsible commercial laundry facilities in the United States,” saving a reported 40 million gallons of water and more than 750,000 therms of natural gas annually.

San Diego Gas & Electric and the California Public Utilities Commission have recognized Emerald for its advanced design and energy efficiency.

San Diego Utility Proclaims Emerald Textiles ‘Energy Champion’

SAN DIEGO — San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) recently named Emerald Textiles, a Southern California commercial healthcare laundry provider, an “Energy Champion” in the Industrial category for energy efficiency and conservation at the sixth annual SDG&E Energy Showcase.

Emerald Textiles and 10 other Energy Champions combined to save more than 55 million kilowatt-hours this year, which provides an energy and environmental impact equal to removing 3,187 cars from California roadways, SDG&E says.

Sharp HealthCare Outsources Linen Service to Emerald Textiles

SAN DIEGO — Sharp HealthCare has selected Emerald Textiles, a Southern California commercial laundry service, as exclusive provider of linens and linen services for all Sharp facilities, Emerald Textiles reports via press release.

Sharp HealthCare is a not-for-profit integrated regional healthcare delivery system based in San Diego. Emerald Textiles serves Sharp’s four acute-care hospitals and three specialty hospitals, as well as 19 Sharp Rees-Stealy medical centers.

Housed in a 111,000-square-foot industrial laundry facility, Emerald Textiles’ new $20 million plant exceeds Title 22 compliance standards, which helps hospitals attain accreditation from The Joint Commission, according to Tom Gildred, founder and CEO of Emerald Textiles.

Cintas Agrees to Settle Class-Action Lawsuit Alleging Living-Wage Violations

LOS ANGELES — Cintas Corp. has agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit alleging that it violated the City of Los Angeles Living Wage Ordinance, and Workers United/SEIU, which claims to represent 70% of laundry workers in California, says the settlement will cost the company a record $6.5 million.

More than 500 Southern California Cintas laundry workers are due to receive back wages, the union says.
