LAS VEGAS — Members of the National Association of Institutional Linen Management (NAILM) voted Sunday to rename the organization the “Association for Linen Management,” known by the acronym ALM.

An ad hoc committee authorized by the association’s membership last year to study a possible name change “sifted through a vast number” of suggestions before sending two to the board of directors, according to Bart Carpenter, who chairs the association’s bylaws committee.

RICHMOND, Ky. — Members of the National Association of Institutional Linen Management (NAILM) will be asked to vote on changing the association’s name at NAILM’s annual meeting just prior to the Clean Show in Las Vegas, reports Bart Carpenter, senior vice president, in the association’s NLM Journal.

An ad hoc committee authorized by NAILM’s membership at the 2006 annual meeting “sifted through a vast number” of suggestions before sending two to the NAILM board.

RICHMOND, Ky. — Little time remains to register for the 2006 National Association of Institutional Linen Management (NAILM) Educational Conference slated for next month in Memphis, Tenn., association officials report.

The June 8-10 event will feature a wide variety of educational sessions and other activities.

Building alternative revenue streams, managing energy costs, customer recovery, waste management, disaster planning and group purchasing plans are among the seminar topics.

Thirty-three years ago, I applied for my first laundry job. I was fresh out of college and looking for something to do until I found a job in my major.

I applied for a job as a custodian, thinking that it was something that I could pick up quickly and the organization wouldn’t mind if I only worked a couple of months. Unfortunately, the hospital had another idea and sent me to the central laundry to interview for a washer operator position.
