Survey: McCain Would Be Most Favorable to Business, Economy

CHICAGO — Republican John McCain would be the most favorable to business and the economy if elected president, according to the majority of respondents who took April’s Wire survey.

McCain, the presumptive GOP nominee, received 65.7% of the vote, well ahead of Democrats Hillary Clinton (20%) and Barack Obama (14.3%), who are battling for their party’s nomination. There were no votes for a third-party candidate.

Survey: Managers Weigh In On Immigration Reform

CHICAGO — Less than 4% of respondents to a Wire survey report their operations were impacted in spring 2006 by walkouts or boycotts that were related to immigration-reform demonstrations.

Against the backdrop of legislation proposed to toughen U.S. immigration laws, only 22.6% of respondents believe a crackdown on illegal immigrants would substantially reduce the available labor pool in their area and thus make it more difficult for them to hire workers.
