BENTON HARBOR, Mich. — Whirlpool Corp.’s sales dropped 8% for the third quarter of 2009 compared to the same period in 2008, according to a recent earnings report, but it raised its profit outlook for the year, saying that its cost-cutting measures will pay off in the final quarter.

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Ecolab Inc. has announced that it plans to undertake restructuring and other cost-saving actions as it streamlines and improves its global business. This will result in a special charge in the fourth quarter of 2008 and a restructuring special charge in 2009. It will produce significant annual cost savings and create a more efficient organization, Ecolab says.

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Best Manufacturing, a manufacturer and distributor of table linen and napery, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Aug. 9.

It lists liabilities exceeding $100 million and assets exceeding $153 million in the filing, which excludes its Mexico, Canada and Cambodia subsidiaries.

ARLINGTON, Va. — Uniform & Textile Service Association (UTSA) members will vote on a proposal next month to significantly reshape the association's dues and funding structure.

The restructuring plan approved by the board of directors provides for funding of all legislative and regulatory work independently and separately from dues.
