Well, it is 2 p.m. on the opening day of the show and one piece of equipment has caught my attention. In the past, sheet pickers almost required that the linen come directly from the press to the picker in order to work properly. There is a new sheet picker on the market from Chicago Dryer Co. that should work equally well with cakes of linen and conditioned linen. This represents a tremendous move forward.

Eric Frederick is director of linen services for Carilion Laundry Service, Roanoke, Va., and a two-time Association for Linen Management manager of the year.

BISMARCK, N.D. — Central Dakota Hospital Laundry (CDHL) Manager Greg Lorenz was faced with a challenging question. When should he replace an efficient tunnel system that has been working well for many years? Lorenz got his answer when the financing that was available became too good to pass up.

With financing in place and approval from its board, CDHL looked to The Minnesota Chemical Co. for a new Milnor tunnel washer. The local distributor sold the original tunnel system back in 1992.

I really enjoy facing the various challenges that come my way. Sometimes they are new business opportunities, sometimes they are new and better ways to do business.

But no matter what they are, they always come with the risk of failure. I have come to see that failure is not a bad thing. If you have never failed, then you have never reached for or known greatness.
