APIC’s Bjerke to Chair HLAC Board of Directors in 2011

FRANKFORT, Ill. — The Healthcare Laundry Accreditation Council (HLAC) announced its Board of Directors for 2011 during its board meeting earlier this month.

Officers include Chairwoman Nancy Bjerke, BSN, RN, MPH, CIC, Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) representative; Vice Chairman Rocco Romeo, CEO, HLS Linen Services; and Secretary/Treasurer Rob Potack, vice president, Unitex Textile Rental Services.

CHICAGO — The Regional Water Supply Planning Group, a task force funded by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to study the Chicago area’s long-term water needs, has issued hundreds of recommendations for businesses and residents to start conserving water to prevent future shortages.

Lawmakers Call for Safety Investigation in Wake of Cintas Fatality

TULSA, Okla. — A Cintas Corp. employee working in the wash room was killed in an apparent accident here March 6, prompting several Democratic members of Congress to ask a federal agency to investigate alleged machinery safety hazards at the company’s industrial laundries nationwide.

Eleazar Torres-Gomez, 46, became trapped in an industrial dryer that was in operation. Other workers found his body 20 minutes later.
