OSHA Seeks Approval for Proposed PPE, Training Rule

WASHINGTON — The United States Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is accepting public comments on a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) on personal protective equipment (PPE) and training standards. The proposal clarifies that when an OSHA standard requires an employer to provide PPE, such as respirators, or training to employees, the employer must do so for each employee subject to the requirement. Each employee not protected may be considered a separate violation for penalty purposes.

Cintas Faces $2.78 Million in OSHA Fines

WASHINGTON — The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) on Thursday proposed $2.78 million in penalties against Ohio-based Cintas Corp. following an investigation into an employee death at the company’s Tulsa, Okla., laundry facility.

Eleazar Torres-Gomez, 46, was killed March 6 when he fell into an operating industrial dryer while clearing a jam of wet laundry on a conveyor that carries the laundry from the washer into the dryer.

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has unveiled new safety and health guidance that will help healthcare workers and their employers prepare for a possible influenza pandemic.

The agency released Pandemic Influenza Preparedness and Response Guidance for Healthcare Workers and Healthcare Employers on Monday.
