BROOKLYN, N.Y. — After 110 years in business, General Linen Supply & Laundry Co. is ceasing operations here, effective June 1.
“For many reasons, personal as well as business, we have decided it’s time to sell the business,” Jill Werner, co-chief executive with her sister Susan Troy, told American Laundry News’ sister publication Crain’s New York Business.
General Linen Supply is still finalizing agreements with suppliers that will continue to provide linen services to restaurants in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, but the transition should have a minimal effect on clients, Werner says.
Troy said she hopes that the new suppliers will hire many of the 258 employees affected by the closure. “It’s a bittersweet moment to have been in business for such a long time. We’ve been a real part of the city.”
